Update: so I went to the TeamViewer website, found the link to download the Android app and sideloaded it onto the Kindle. After uninstalling the old version, I installed the update and was able to connect to my pc. But - you do this at your own risk since TeamViewer will not take responsibility for Kindle compatibility.
